Mattis for President

Seriously, he should be President.  I know from time to time, you see Marine banter that indicates General James Mattis should be the next President.  Sometimes it is filled with absurdity and others it is filled with serious analysis.  This post will include a mix of both, but it is based on the seriousness that he would indeed get my vote for President and he should get yours too.  Yes, I know Hillary, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie are all popular names floated around. But General Mattis is the real deal.  So here we go.

1. Unquestioned Leadership – Does everyone remember all the street cred and Presidential talk given to General Colin Powell and General Norman Schwarzkopf after the Gulf War?  Yes, the Gulf War was a spectacularly amazing victory as we all got to see smart bombs and missiles go through windows and so forth.  Then we had that fun little 72-hour blitz into Iraq and Kuwait.  It was amazing and we thank them for their leadership.  But General Mattis says I’ll see your 72-hour war and raise you another decade.

Granted, General Mattis was not the top General in charge of it all.  No, he was just the one loved most by his men and feared by his enemies and he didn’t have to do this for just a business week. This leader kept it together for over a decade of hard-fought ground combat. Now I never met General Mattis myself,but having been a Marine Veteran of Iraq myself, there was no greater comfort than knowing that General Mattis is up there somewhere.  As a nation facing many problems and a Presidency marked by less than stellar reviews, don’t you think its about time we can have a President with proven leadership in the most hostile environment imaginable.  We need an 8-year break from worrying so much, and I can think of no better facilitator of that peace than General James Mattis.

2.  The Secret Service Can Just Be The Backup Plan – It’s been a rough couple of years for the Secret Service.  They have been plagued by failures and scandal resulting most recently in the resignation of the head of the Secret Service.  If all this happens during a General Mattis Presidency, eh, no big deal.  Having General Mattis as President is the equivalent of having Chuck Norris as President, with the exception that Chuck Norris would have to toughen up a bit for this analogy to work.

You see, with the recent news of the fence jumper with a knife running across the White House lawn and making it all the way into the White House, security is all the more important.  But with General Mattis as President, the Secret Service can watch this fence jumper run into the White House and think not,” Oh No”, but they will look at him and think, “Poor Bastard, someone call the carpet cleaners again”. The Secret Service needs the help people.  General Mattis for President.

3. Partisan Politics Don’t Matter – Since the end of World War II, America has been presided over equally by Republican and Democratic Presidents. In fact, by 2016 it will be dead equal with about 35 years each give or take a few months.  Specifically, in the past 16 years, we have been governed by a Conservative George W. Bush and a Liberal Barack Obama.  And you know what, we survived.  That’s right, the worst has not come true in either scenario. So whether or not General Mattis has particularly conservative or liberal views on any given issue really doesn’t matter.  His leadership to the country and his leadership of a capable and effective administration will far outweigh any particular policy disagreement you may have with him.

The truth is, half the country will always be upset with the President over a particular policy. So wouldn’t it be nice to have a President who could effectively lead whatever policy he believes best for the nation.  This guy wasn’t sitting around plotting how to be President.  I have met many young politicians and so many have that air of pretentiousness and plotting for the next office.  Not General Mattis. He was just waiting for the next War. You can’t buy genuine authenticity like this.

4. Other Countries Will Simmer Down – Yes, I am looking at you Putin.  Putin’s judo has nothing on General Mattis’ knife hands.  The whole speak softly and carry a big stick thing only works if you have a President known to be capable of swinging that big stick. We are talking about the guy that was quoted as saying its a lot of fun to kill Taliban terrorist who slap around their women. I think he even called it a hoot!

In addition, General Mattis will not only command the respect of the military, but the instant obedience to legions of Marine Veterans throughout the nation.  Things getting a little rough in South America somewhere but don’t have the authorization for War? All General Mattis has to say is that he wished someone would go down there and do something about that mess and we will all be singing the Marine Corps Hymn in Venezuela by breakfast the next morning. But specifically, I refer back to Putin.  Its been hard having a Russian President that you know can beat up your current President.  A General with the nickname, “Mad Dog” solves that problem.

5.  He is Already More Quoted than Most Presidents – Presidential quotes are a thing.  All the good ones are supposed to have one as to be President you have to have a way with words.  So let me end this post by offering a few of my favorite General Mattis quotes.  First of all he said this, “I don’t lose any sleep at night over the potential for failure.  I can’t even spell the word.”  Tell me that doesn’t inspire confidence in you from your President.  Granted the spelling issue could be a problem, but I am sure there is a Presidential proofreader out there somewhere.

Next, he said, supporting my theory that other countries will simmer down, “Find the enemy that wants to end this experiment (in American Democracy) and kill everyone of them until they are so sick of the killing that they leave us and our freedoms intact.”  Hello ISIS, that’s what a Mattis administration has in store for you.

Lastly he said this, “You cannot allow any of your people to avoid the brutal facts. If they start living in a dream world it’s going to be bad.”  We need that kind of truth in this nation.  Much of America does indeed live in a dream world and a President who will not pander to our delusions might just be the medicine this country needs.

        1. Im a civilian, yet a capable one. I would have no reservations if I was to take action against enemies of my people. Especially with support of the men and women of the armed forces. True patriotism can be found throughout this country, especially among those who educate themselves and lead their communities. I for one would vote for General Mattis and would most definitely appreciate the type of leadership the General could provide.

Say what you will, but the years in country under his leadership were definitely among the more successful campaign years out there, especially considering the clusterfucks he had inherited when he took command.

    1. I think you would find General Mattis at no loss for the right words if he were President. He is a smart man who chose his words carefully. Those words that would inspire Marines in combat. Just look at the way Marines respect and revere him. Put him as President and he will choose the right words to say to a nation.

  9. Robert Turner Rockwell, you sir, are an idiot. Blind patriotism is EXACTLY what this country needs. We need to stop worrying about everyone else in the world and focus on homeland issues. Let these scrub countries figure it out for themselves, and if someone steps on our toes and it’s warranted, we as a country step in and knock the snot out of them. We need a take charge, look out for number one (as in U.S.A.) president who will get our country (that has been circling the drain for the last 6 years) back on track. The word America used to strike fear in the hearts of our enemies….now it’s a frick’in punch line to ISIS, Russia and Syria……all bark and no bite. But it is the top of arrogance to think US have right to enter Iraq, Venezuela or any other country. It is CIA that destabilised those countries so corporations could devour its resources. Never heard of US fighting for democracy and freedom in Tibet… hmmm lets wait until they discover oil in there, shall we? And let me just say, there are a lot of them. I don’t share your sentiments about myself or my military veteran brothers being brainwashed.   12. My father served with him in Iraq and Afghanistan and he said he never missed a step. Was always right next to his brothers. Never complained and always strived ahead. Good man but i think the last time we had someone like him in power, who had control of the military as a whole millions of people died and the only people who could stop them was the great old usa. Who would stop us in that situation…

    1. Awesome personal experience. I would however argue the Dwight Eisenhower was once in control of one of the largest military forces ever assembled. He seemed to have done well as President. I think of Mattis as an intellect as much as a Warrior. Smart man and I would trust him to faithfully execute the duties of President.

    1. Willing to back up and hold true to the treaties and trust responsibilities this country has the obligations for.
    2. Willing to bend and work with anyone to solve national issues, even if it means telling their own party to kick dirt.
    3. Have a realistic goal to get education moving again – having the best educators and providing the best education in the world should be high priority.
    4. Realize that the position is representative of EVERYONE in the U.S.
    5. Be able to get the idiots on capital hill to actual work together rather than act like preschoolers crying around for their favorite toy.
    6. Have respect for others and be respectful <- it's not hard. Lol

  15. I absolutely love this article. What a lot of people aren’t realizing is the fact that Mad Dog is an incredibly intelligent man. The quotes you have heard from him are the not those of a war monger. Those are the words of a leader not only putting fear into his enemies but motivating and lifting up those under his command. when you are a part of an institution that has a sole purpose of fighting wars and defending it’s country, those are the words as a war fighter that you need to hear. It’s not like this guy would address the country as president talking about killing people and pushing war. Mattis is a born leader, has lead by example and is respected. How many General grade officers…. sorry let me rephrase that… How many Commissioned officers do you know of that would walk into a barracks duty hut on a holiday and tell the duty to go spend time with his family??? General Mad Dog Mattis!!! That’s who. A true patriot with a devotion to his country and his duty. Semper Fi Marines and all other service members out there!

  16. I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I have all the answers. However I think that in the current state of our nation it’s important to remember that since WWII we have been a nation constantly at war. I think the statistic is something like 65 out of the past 70 years of our history we’ve been involved in some sort of conflict. I also think it is important to remember that our infrastructure is crumbling…and as a presidential candidate he has to be able to address the home front issues as well as the abroad. I don’t know much about this man..yet I have a very deep respect for him as he has served our country and at the very least he deserves that! Yet will he give the respect he gets as well…poloticians don’t like to follow they like to lead and a leader who demands his constituents follow him might not work out as well as people might think. Look at how Obama said he was going to do something and the senate and house both lashed out at him…do you think it would be any different? I don’t argue with the fact that we need someone who is intimidating to our aggressors…its a must. Yet I think that we also need someone who can compromise and enlighten people to their ideas and be open to other ideas as well. Politics is a slippery slope no matter how you slice it. I’m not saying no I’m just saying these are some things that the opposition will harp on if he does run…and that everyone should think of when suggesting someone…weaknesses however small can still cripple the hardest armor.

  17. Long ago, in a land far away, back when it was young little 19 year old Lance Corporal White, and CAPTAIN Mattis, the General was my Skipper in Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. I never served under his command again, but over the years I ran into him from time to time, watched his progression. The nation could do a whole lot worse than a President Mattis.

  18. I have been a member of the massive military complex for over 32 years. Have been in theater with Gen Mattis on several occasions. He is a proven leader and very intelligent. A reminder to all those that say we are blind in our patriotism: we will defend this country to our last breath, and sacrifice our comforts for yours – voluntarily. I have seen the smartest and best of our society can be found in the ranks of our military.

  21. Mattis, Powell, McCrystal, Webb, and others are all excellent, potential Presidents (in keeping with the ‘Dwight Eisenhower’ experience). However, time has changed the currnet political situation. Today, one person (male or female) in the White House will not break-up the political gridlock that exist. (My opinion) is that a ‘Third’ Political wave (with candidates for U.S. Representative, U.S. Senate, and the White House) are needing to be elected to office. The numbers elected, would not need to be a majority; only large enough, to keep the other two political Parties from having a majority. In using the traditional [Democrat vs. Republican] election process, this objective is not possible; however, (without conducting a coup) there is a WAY!

    If you are really desiring, and willing, to make this objective a reality — then LET’S make it happen in 2016 — before it is too late!!

I do try to limit my personal commentary here but I keep getting emails about the forthcoming “revolution” and storming the White House with guns blazing, etc. America has an imperfect government but it’s the best thing going and why so many have fought and died to preserve it. The true “revolution” that America needs is the one that is already underway. Register to vote. Make sure your friends and family are registered to vote. Become informed and politically active. Volunteer your time and money in supporting the candidates of your choice. Call your senators and congressmen, hold them accountable for their actions.     What we need is a Revolution via Bernie Sanders, the most Christian candidate and the best supporter veterans have had in a hundred years on the hill. A man with sound judgment who knows when to send our troops into war, and for the right reasons. A man who will not sacrifice veterans’ lives for money and the power of the wealthy. Semper Fi!
